The Parents Association at ORI: Support, Advice and Cooperation

The Parents Association at ORI plays an important part in recognizing parents' needs and concerns and finding solutions. Its tasks range from advising on school‑related problems to supporting school events and projects.

A central aspect of the council’s work is advising parents in various educational and social matters. Frequently, questions arise about special needs of children, such as reading‑ and spelling‑related weaknesses (dyslexia) or children who struggle with concentration problems or hyperactivity (ADD and ADHD). In addition, it deals with conflicts that can arise in WhatsApp groups between parents or children, or with general questions about procedures and organization at school. These topics are handled with the knowledge and experience of the council members, who themselves have ORI children and know the challenges of school life firsthand.

At regular intervals the PA meets with the school leadership team to discuss parents’ concerns and develop solutions. The discussion is not limited to organizational matters but also covers current school projects and events. For example, the council was able to take an active part in organizing the reading challange for the 6th‑grade classes. Even though the past few years were shaped by the covid pandemic and many larger events were cancelled, the PA is committed to ensuring that such events can take place again in the future.

Another important task of the council is providing financial support to the school. Through actions such as the Sponsorenlauf or the sale of homemade cookies and cakes, important projects and purchases can be funded. The proceeds are used, among other things, to support the school library, extracurricular groups and trips such as visits to the museum. These financial resources help improve the school’s infrastructure and offer children a varied programme that the school itself cannot fully finance.

The PA also supports parents in difficult cases. When a disciplinary procedure is pending, affected parents can request assistance from the PA. In such cases the council strives to understand both the child’s perspective and that of the parents in order to achieve a fair and balanced solution in the disciplinary committee.

The PA is elected new each year. Involvement in the Parents Association offers the opportunity to actively shape one’s own child’s school experience and, through dialogue with the school administration, to have a positive impact on school life. Council members learn firsthand how the school is organized, which events are upcoming and which topics are important. This enables them to help ensure that their children have a good school experience at ORI.
